Windows: “It’s Your Birthday In One Day, Don’t Forget!”

Apparently I’m expected to forget my own birthday hence receiving emails from Windows emailing me about the anniversary of my poor mother giving birth to a demon baby (this wasn’t the exact wording but was definitely my interpretation).

My memory really isn’t as bad as they think. Yes I have trouble with the days of the week on occasion, but really, I’ve got a lovely family who wouldn’t let me forget even if I wanted to. The past couple of weeks have been spent birthday shopping, cards have arrived and my Grandad dropped his off on Thursday.

I’m just not very good at birthdays is all.

This is the first one in years that I haven’t wished away. I’m actually happy this time round, mostly anyway. I just feel odd. Completely and utterly odd. In the past all I’ve felt is guilt. Mostly generated by how damn nice everyone is on my birthday, not that they aren’t normally, but it’s different on the day. In the past I’ve felt undeserving and then bad that I couldn’t feel happy like everyone wanted me to be. And now, like a total nutter, I don’t know how to be on my first “happy” birthday.

What a loser. I know you’re thinking it and I can’t really blame you. I’m a birthday retard. I’m wearing a dunce cap with a tassle on the end and I’m terrified of popping those streamer things. I avoid birthday cake too and can never blow all the candles out at once. People singing Happy Birthday makes me feel awkward. I just don’t know what to do with the whole thing.

Change my mood and tell me how to have a happy birthday properly?!

  1. I’m happy you’re having a happy birthday :)

Don’t know the answer either I’m afraid, but I hope you have a lovely day! x

  2. I’m kind of a birthday retard too. 2 days before you. It wasn’t good, lots of bad things happened and weirdly I thought “yes this is what I deserve” with satisfaction.

  3. I’m a birthday retard too so I can’t help you!

  4. Birthdays are never complete until you’ve said ‘Happy Birthday’ to the birthday gal or boy! So go ahead and do just that go to wish your loved ones very happy b’day. Wishing friends or loved ones on their birthdays sure adds to their cheer. So go ahead and make this day all the more special for them.
